Why I Struggle to Blog Consistently and How I’m Going To Change That!

Blogging is something that I have absolutely grown to love over the recent months. I’m just having one small problem…I’m not consistent. Honestly it’s not a small problem, it’s a HUGE problem, especially when starting a business in which I’m getting little traffic. Which is unfortunate, because lydiaandlilac.com has so many amazing things! I realize I need to boost my SEO and one of the best ways to do that is through my blog. So, why am I not consistent and what am I going to do about it? Read on to find out my friend!

The reason I have such a difficult time being consistent is time. I know many of you can relate! I honestly have so many ideas, so many things I want to share. I just don’t always have the time to get my thoughts down. I have several things that I am putting into practice to become more consistent with my blogging. Here’s my list:

1. Set a goal to get at least one blog post in each week.

I know I should probably be blogging more than this, but right now this is something I know I can achieve. At this point in my life more than ever, I need to make sure the goals I set are achievable. If not, I have a really hard time sticking with them.

2. Take advantage of my phone.

So, I purchased my first iPhone this summer. (I know, welcome to the 21st Century Michelle!) I do my best thinking when I’m in the car driving, so I’m taking advantage of my phone’s ability to create lists for me. This way I have a list of blogging ideas that I can refer back to later.

3. Remember that it’s ok to have short posts.

When I first started blogging, I thought that I needed longer posts. Since then I have learned it’s about quality not quantity. Honestly, sometimes less is more!

4. Create a schedule.

Ok, so I have my goal and I have my list of ideas. Another way to help me stick with it, is to have my post ideas scheduled out. This reduces time I spend mulling over what I want to write about each week. There are still times I may feel like writing due to emotion or something that has just happened, but there are also times that I’m really tired and the less decisions I have to make in those moments, the better.

5. Have fun!

Most importantly, I need to remember not to put so much pressure on myself. I tend to be really hard on myself, which is something I have been trying to work on. My recent motto has become, “Michelle, you are only one person.” I have so much going on and I need to remember that I started blogging as a creative outlet, not to add more stress to my life.

  1. Good tips! I too have trouble staying consistent with my posts, and I really wanted to try Blogmas as inspiration to blog everyday but that didn’t work lol! Quality over quantity is definitely true and I try to remember that also when I can only bring myself to post like once a week. I personally just like to write when I just feel most inspired, when the words are just flowing from my fingertips! Thanks for sharing

    I struggle with the same thing when it comes to my blog. Time slips away from me, and I have a hard time being consistent. I will definitely follow your advice though, especially with not worrying about having such long posts.

    When I first started blogging years ago, I blogged at least once a day. Over the years, blogging has become more complicated, and publishing a post takes longer now. There’s SEO to think about, and creating different graphics for the various social networks. And then there’s backlinking, adding affiliate links, and of course promotion. No wonder it’s tough for most of us to stay on top of things!

    I think if you’re posting once a week consistently, you’re doing OK. So don’t worry that this goal isn’t ambitious enough 🙂

    I definitely needed the dose of motivation. Sometimes I struggle with getting 2 up but I do it! I’m going to go to once a week as I work on increasing my net worth at my regular 9-5.

    • Hi! I think it is especially important for those of us who are working full time in addition to our blogs to have realistic goals each week. I often have to step back and remind myself I cannot possibly keep up the same standard as those who are not working a 9-5.

  6. First of all, welcome to the iPhone world! Next to my laptop, my phone has been a timesaver when it comes to blogging. Whenever I am somewhere in which I cannot use my laptop, my cell phone always comes in handy. Not to mention you can use Siri to help you plan ahead. just speak the command and it will add it to the calendar or notes for you. Since I’ve started blogging, I’ve become more dependant on my phone than ever, but it helps me handle all of the admin work. If you stick to your schedule, you will be just fine. Think positive. Remain positive.

    Oh I love this! I love the short post idea because when I started blogging, I was so worried about the length of the post but I totally agree sometimes short posts are better. I’ve tried it on the WordPress Daily Prompt words and its working great, its helping me to be more creative. I also put too much pressure on myself because I am not really a writer but I just want to share my rumblings with the world, so this post has really encouraged me to just chill and have fun. Thanks for sharing.
